May - ‘Living Ornaments '79 and '80 - (album)

The Box Set version with copies of both separate releases of Living Ornaments 1979 and Living Ornaments 1980 first charted on the 02 May 1981 reaching its peak position of No.2 in the Official Charts the following week (09 May 1981). The box set appeared in the UK charts for four weeks in all and was last listed in the weekly chart for 23/05/1981 having spent all 4 weeks in the Top 40.

May - ‘Living Ornaments 1979’ - (album)

The separate release of ‘Living Ornaments 1979’ also entered the UK Charts on the 02 May 1981, spending 3 weeks within the chart’s Top 75 and reaching its peak position of No.47 on its initial appearance in the charts.

May - ‘Living Ornaments 1980’ - (album)

As with the other parts of the Living Ornaments set, ‘Living Ornaments 1980’ first charted on 02 May 1981. Like 'LO 1979', this separate release spent only 3 weeks in the music charts and last appeared in the weekly chart for 16/05/1981. Peaking at No.39 on its first appearance (02/05/1981). The album spent 2 weeks of its 3 week stay in the Top 40.

July - ‘Stormtrooper in Drag’ - (single)

Numan teamed up with ex 'Tubeway Army' electric bassist 'Paul Gardiner' to release the single ‘Stormtrooper in Drag’. The single had mild success in the UK Official Charts entering the charts in July 1981 (25/07/1981) and achieving a highest position of No.49 on 08 August 1981. The single was listed in the charts for 4 weeks, last appearing in the chart of 15 August 1981.

August - ‘She’s Got Claws’ - (single)

In anticipation of the then upcoming release of the album ‘Dance’ the single ‘She’s Got Claws’ was released and entered the UK Charts on 29 August 1981. The single reached its peak position of No.6 on 05 September 1981, spending six weeks in the music charts in all, 4 being listed in the UK’s Top 40. The single last appeared in the charts on 03/10/1981.

September - ‘Dance’ - (album)

The Numan phenomena had a change in style in 1981 as demonstrated with the release of Gary’s forth studio album ‘Dance’. The album first entered the UK Official Charts on 12 September 1981 and subsequently spent 8 weeks in total in the music charts. Two of these were appearances within the UK’s Top 10 albums with 5 weeks showing in the chart’s Top 40. On the 19 September 1981, Dance reached its peak position (No.3) in the weekly chart for 19/09/1981. Dance last appeared in the Official Music Charts in the week commencing 31 October 1981(No.95) after its 8 weeks stay in the Top 100.

December - ‘Love Needs No Disguise’ - (single)

After the chart success of the 'Dance' album, Numan teamed up again with former band members who had set up ‘Dramatis’ following Gary’s retirement announcement in April 1981. Together they released the single ‘Love Needs No Disguise’ which was taken from the Dramatis album ‘For Future Reference’. The single was a hit among Numan fans but became only a marginal hit nationwide after it entered the Official Charts at No.33 (peak position) on the 05 December 1981. The single spent 7 weeks in the music charts, two of which were within Top 40 positions and last appeared I the weekly chart dated 16/01/1982.
